{"id":3490,"date":"2022-08-22T10:05:46","date_gmt":"2022-08-22T15:05:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tonybeshara.com\/blog\/?p=3490"},"modified":"2022-08-22T10:05:46","modified_gmt":"2022-08-22T15:05:46","slug":"interview-counsel-for-your-blind-spots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tonybeshara.com\/blog\/interview-counsel-for-your-blind-spots\/","title":{"rendered":"Interview Counsel for Your Blind Spots"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When candidates lose out to a lesser candidate, of skill or background, due to lack of salesmanship when it comes to their qualifications or lack of interview preparation they often fall into the \u201cblame game&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A great example of this was a candidate I had who changed the interview time with the hiring authority twice, he did practically no research or preparation on the company or the person he was going to interview with.\u00a0 The candidate went into the interview with a, &#8220;what you got for me?&#8221; attitude.\u00a0 The hiring authority, obviously unimpressed, eliminated the candidate immediately. \u00a0\u00a0When I relayed the elimination information to the candidate he stated, &#8220;Well, I guess it just wasn&#8217;t meant to be.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>No kidding, I thought.\u00a0 He totally screwed up the interview.<\/p>\n<p>Taking advice from trusted sources is the best way to see your blind spots.\u00a0 In this case, I suggested the candidate should:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Reflect<\/strong> <\/span>on what he contributed to the rejection notice<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Modify<\/strong> <\/span>and change his interview mindset and approach<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Review<\/strong> <\/span>results, once new interview tactics are applied<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If a candidate does their absolute best in interviewing for a job, meaning they researched, practiced, and prepared themselves the best way possible and still are not hired.\u00a0 All they can do is try again.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Jordan stated this best,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cI can accept failure, everyone fails at something.
